Pollution Complaint Investigation
Goal:
To ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local rules and regulations regarding pollution events.
- The Pollution Control Operations Section investigates an estimated 230 pollution complaints annually.
- Pollution complaints are typically associated with pollutant releases, (e.g. sewage, petroleum, or other hazardous substances) fish kills, red tide, or anything which can negatively impact water quality.
Mandates:
To comply with Collier County’s Water Pollution Control Ordinance No. 2019-17, Fertilizer Ordinance No. 2019-18, and the County’s NPDES Permit requirements.
Benefits:
This program is overseen by environmental professionals who can educate the customer and ensure the site is remediated appropriately.

You can also email the complaint details to pollution_control@colliercountyfl.gov. Please note that Pollution Control does not conduct investigations for air pollution complaints. To report air pollution complaints, please contact the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s South District Office at 239-344-5600.
Emergency Response Contractors:
Site remediation from spills associated with pollutant releases may require outside resources to complete. If you are responsible for site remediation, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection has a list of emergency response contractors that can be hired. Please note, that Collier County is not financially responsible for site remediation associated with pollutant releases on private property, or releases caused by other responsible parties.
