Sustainable Reef Fishing - Regulations

Florida’s artificial reefs provide anglers with excellent opportunities to fish for some of them most desired species in the state.                                                        close up of circle hook in gag

Due to increased fishing pressure and a degraded coastal and marine habitat over the years, more stringent state and federal regulations are in place to protect and sustain Florida’s important fisheries. As a result of these regulations and an increasing sense of stewardship, anglers are practicing catch and release fishing more than ever.

However, regulations are only effective if the fish that anglers release survive. Following the rules and regulations, using the appropriate equipment, and knowing the correct handling and release techniques will help ensure fisheries remain healthy for future generations.
