Rural Lands Stewardship Area
The Rural Lands Stewardship Area (RLSA) includes important environmental and agricultural assets, most of which are on privately held land. In 2002, the RLSA Overlay (RLSAO) was adopted to create a land-use plan to protect agricultural areas, natural habitats, wetlands and flow ways while directing growth away from these areas. The Overlay was amended in 2021, in Resolution 2021-28, to change acreages and stewardship credits and to establish development standards and program requirements.
Stewardship Credits are tracked using the Stewardship Sending Areas Audit, which shows the acreage protected, the number of Stewardship Credits generated, and the number of Stewardship Credits transferred to Receiving Areas for development.
