The Water Division provides 10 billion gallons of water annually to approximately 83,400 customers through sustained compliance with all Federal, State and local laws, rules, regulations and ordinances.
The public water supply system consists of:
• 102 wells located in three wellfields
• two raw water booster pumping stations
• two hybrid water treatment plants
• four potable water storage and booster pumping stations
• approximately 1,200 miles of raw water and potable water transmission mains and appurtenances.
The North County Regional Water Treatment Plant has a constructed capacity to produce 20 million gallons of drinking water per day. The facility was originally constructed in 1993 with a capacity of 12 Million Gallons per Day (MGD) of membrane softening (nanofiltration) water treatment process. In 1999, a facility expansion was completed that added 8 MGD of reverse osmosis water treatment process capacity, bringing the total constructed capacity of the facility to 20 MGD.
The South County Regional Water Treatment Plant has a constructed capacity to produce 32 million gallons of drinking water per day. The facility was originally constructed in 1984 with a capacity of 4 Million Gallons per Day (MGD) of lime softening water treatment process. In 1988, the facility was expanded by 8 MGD, bringing the total constructed capacity of the lime softening water treatment process to 12 MGD. In 2004, a facility expansion was completed that added 8 MGD of reverse osmosis water treatment process in a separate process building on the same site. In 2007, an additional 4 MGD of reverse osmosis water treatment capacity was added, and in 2009, the last 8 MGD of reverse osmosis water treatment capacity was completed, bringing the reverse osmosis water treatment capacity to a total of 20 MGD.
