Deep Injection Well
Project Manager: Paul Abbott
Address: 3370 White Lake Blvd, Naples, FL
Purpose/Project Description: Previously, fluid collected at the Collier County Landfill was transported through a system of pipes and treated by our wastewater treatment plant to produce irrigation quality water. This process costed $1.5 million per year. The deep injection well (DIW) is a cost-effective, eco-friendly and long-term solution. Currently, all fluid collected at the landfill is pumped to the DIW and injected by pumps 3,000 feet below the surface. The DIW and ancillary support system can process two million gallons per day. The project has a payback period of roughly ten years, while the life span of the equipment will be 25 years or longer if properly maintained. This project will save taxpayers tens of millions of dollars while removing a strain on other critical infrastructure being utilized to provide service to our residents.
