CAAS Accreditation:
The Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) is an independent Commission that established a comprehensive series of standards for the ambulance service industry. CAAS accreditation signifies that your service has met the "gold standard" determined by the ambulance industry to be essential in a modern emergency medical services provider. These standards often exceed those established by state or local regulation. The CAAS standards are designed to increase operational efficiency and clinical quality, while decreasing risk and liability to the organization. As of 2015, there are only 11 credited ambulance service agencies in the state of Florida and 151 in the Country.
CAMTS Accreditation:
The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) announced that Collier County MedFlight, a County EMS run rotor-wing service, was awarded accreditation on June 3, 2015. MedFlight provides highly skilled flight paramedic teams to care for adult or pediatric patients in Collier County and the surrounding counties.
CAMTS is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality and safety of medical transport services. There are 19 current member organizations (the each of which sends one representative to the CAMTS Board of Directors). The Commission offers a program of voluntary evaluation of compliance with accreditation standards and demonstrating the ability to deliver service of a specific quality.
The Commission believes that the two highest priorities of an air medical transport service are patient care and safety of the transport environment. The Commission's standards often exceed state or local licensing requirements. In order to obtain accreditation, a medical transport service must be in substantial compliance with the Accreditation Standards.
Collier County MedFlight is one of four rotorwing programs accredited in the state of Florida and only the second public service organization to be awarded accreditation in the United States of America. This marks a significant milestone in the progression of the MedFlight program and comes during its 40th anniversary serving Collier County.
