The MedFlight helicopters are produced by Airbus Helicopters.  They are both twin engine helicopters with enclosed (fenestron) tail rotors which reduces noise and increases safety for ground personnel.

The new MedFlight helicopter (designated MedFlight1) has an increased maximum lifting weight (approx. 7%) while having the same fuel burn rate of around 67 gallons per hour.  MedFlight1 has a fully modern digital cockpit which reduces pilot workload.

The aircraft is also equipped with a four axis autopilot system for increased safety while flying in adverse weather.  In addition, the autopilot system has the ability to hover the aircraft, allowing for new mission capabilities such as hoisting operations.

Both aircraft are equipped to carry a maximum of 2-patients and 2-Flight Paramedics plus one passenger and the pilot.

Equipment:

  • Active Weather Radar
  • Wire Strike Protection system
  • NVG Compatible lighting system
  • Increased Performance Engines
  • Sand/Dust/Debris Filter system for engines
  • External Camera System for scene safety
  • Modern Digital Cockpit
  • 4-Axis Autopilot system with auto hover capabilities
