FORENSIC DEATH INVESTIGATOR

Position Type: Full-Time with on-call

Salary: $25.00/hour. Negotiable with experience.

This is a Full-Time Forensic Death Investigator position at the District Medical Examiner’s Office.  Please note that there is no application form.  Applicant must be a US citizen or have a current US work visa and must reside in Lee or Collier Counties.

Salary

  • Starting salary range of $25.00/hourly.  Negotiable, if applicant is experienced.
  • Benefits: health insurance, retirement, paid holidays, accrued paid time off 
  • The District Twenty Medical Examiner is a contracted service. Employees are NOT county or state employees.

Education/Experience

  • Experience in investigations, medical examiner’s office or forensic coursework preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Job Description

  • Gather and prioritize information from medical providers, police, families, funeral homes, etc.  
  • Write comprehensive and timely notes and summaries of conversations
  • Complete death certification and other information
  • Respond to all inquiries in a timely manner
  • Exceptional organizational skills required
  • Must be able to work under pressure, multi-task and maintain composure and a good attitude
  • Able to communicate with grieving families respectfully and with empathy
  • Must be able to read and write English proficiently
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must be available to work during county, state or national crises or disasters
  • Must be able to work overtime, as needed
  • Must be able to work designated rotating evenings, weekends and holidays (work at these times is usually from home).
  • Must be flexible, assist co-workers and work agreeably in a team environment
  • Investigators do not attend death scenes.
