AUTOPSY TECHNICIAN

Position Type: Full-Time with on-call

Salary: $25.00/hour. Negotiable with experience.

 

This is a Full-Time Autopsy Technician position at the District Medical Examiner’s Office.  Please note that there is no application form.  Applicant must be a US citizen or have a current US work visa and must reside in Lee or Collier Counties.

Salary

  • Starting salary range of $25.00/hourly.  Negotiable, if applicant is experienced.

  • The District Twenty Medical Examiner is a contracted service. Employees are not county or state employees.

Education and Experience

  • Preferred - Education in forensics or experience assisting in autopsies at a medical examiner's office or hospital, forensic anthropology, forensic investigations, forensic photography.

Job Description

  • Assist medical examiner with autopsies - weekdays, on rotating weekends and on rotating holidays.
  • Must be able to work rotating on-call weekends and holidays, as well as overtime, as needed.
  • Must be available to work during and following county, state or national crises or disasters.
  • Prepare autopsy suite and body for autopsy, take photographs, x-rays, clean after autopsy.
  • Responsible for record keeping, labeling, storing and maintaining chain of evidence.
  • Must be able to move a 200-pound deceased person unassisted.
  • Must be able to read and write English proficiently and must be computer literate.
  • Must properly communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent organizational skills required.
  • Able to work under pressure and maintain composure and good attitude.
  • Must be able to learn and understand medical and legal terminology.
  • Must show respect for the deceased, their families, co-workers, supervisors, and other agency personnel.
  • Must be flexible, assist co-workers and able to work agreeably in a team environment.
  • Carry out other morgue duties, as assigned.
