Airport Road Widening Project (between Vanderbilt Beach Road and Immokalee Road) 30 Percent Design Public Information Meeting
Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023
5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Collier County Transportation Management Services Department staff are planning an open house style public information meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 5 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on the Airport Road Widening Project (between Vanderbilt Beach Road and Immokalee Road) which has reached the 30 percent design stage. The meeting will be held at the North Collier Regional Park, Exhibit Hall, 15000 Livingston Road, Naples, FL 34109. Residents, business representatives and visitors are welcome to stop by to review the project displays and talk one-on-one with county staff and the county’s design consultants. There will not be a formal presentation.
The project will widen the Airport Road corridor into a six-lane divided urban arterial roadway by adding an additional travel lane in each direction and on-street bicycle facilities. Travel lanes are being planned as 11-feet wide. In addition, plans call for a 22-foot raised median, curb and gutter and reconstruction of sidewalks along both sides of the roadway, a closed drainage system, street lighting and minor traffic signal improvements. (A diagram of the project area is below.)
The purpose of the project is to add capacity to the corridor and improve travel delay, emergency response times and safety along the corridor.
Design for the roadway improvements is anticipated to be completed by Spring 2025; Environmental permit coordination and applications will be submitted to South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) and Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). Once design is complete and all permits are obtained, construction will follow. Construction may begin as early as summer of 2026.
The design contract for this project is $1.9 million; 50 percent is programmed to be funded from a Florida Dept. of Transportation (FDOT) County Incentive Grant Program (CIGP) with a 50 percent local match of funds. An additional $4.93 million CIGP grant funding has been programmed to help with construction cost along with a $4 million award from the infrastructure sales tax that Collier County voters approved in 2018. Additional funding is programmed from road impact fees and gas taxes.
Project displays will be posted on the county’s website by Dec. 5, 2023 at https://www.colliercountyfl.gov/transportationprojects.
Two or more members of the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) may be present and participate at this meeting. The subject matter of this meeting may be an item for discussion and action at a future BCC meeting.
