Groundbreaking for Golden Gate Library Expansion

Collier County is proud to announce a groundbreaking ceremony for the 17,000 square foot expansion of the Golden Gate Branch Library.

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Friday, May 18, at 10 a.m., at 4898 Coronado Parkway, the site of the existing Golden Gate Branch Library.

Originally constructed in 1978 and enlarged in 1993, the 7,000 square foot Golden Gate Branch Library currently provides library services to over 35,000 Golden Gate residents. A large collection of children’s materials comprises about 25% of materials circulated at the Branch.

The planned 17,000 square foot library building will be adjacent to the existing library and will allow for expanded services, including more adult, children’s and teen book collections to peruse. The new building will also provide quiet areas, study rooms and a public use computer lab. The project also includes a large children's craft room and space for young adults and teens.

A new outdoor courtyard will promote an enclosed reading and activity area for patrons of all ages. The existing building will be used for adult and children’s programs and the Library's Adult Literacy Program. Additional parking is also planned.

The Golden Gate Branch Library expansion project is funded in part by impact fees, along with a $500,000 match with a State of Florida grant. Architect for the expansion is BSSW, Inc, with DeAngelis Diamond serving as General Contractor. The project is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2008.
